Applying for a Myanmar eVisa Online

As you probably know, Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a country in Southeast Asia. While the vast majority of countries need a visa to enter Myanmar, some Southeast Asian countries and other Asian nations such as Hong Kong are exempt. You can check to see if you need a visa to travel to Myanmar by using iVisa’s online visa lookup tool. A Myanmar visa for US citizens is required.

Assuming that you need a visa to enter Myanmar, it’s actually quite easy to apply for a Burmese visa. Rather than going through the Republic of the Union of Myanmar’s government website and filling out a Myanmar visa application, iVisa will submit the necessary paperwork and documentation to the Burmese government on your behalf and email you your Myanmar eVisa.

All you have to do is input your passport information, anticipated travel dates, and port of arrival. Then, depending on how quickly you need it, you can choose to get your Myanmar eVisa as soon as 24 hours from now.

While I submitted my iVisa application with standard processing on a Friday, I found my eVisa in my inbox on Monday, just three days later. Consequently, it seems like processing times are maximums. So unless you’re pressed for time, standard processing is probably sufficient.

Myanmar Visa Requirements

It’s worth pointing out that your passport cannot expire within six months from your planned date of entry. In addition, you must submit a recent passport-style photo of yourself that was taken within the last three months.

Once issued, your Myanmar tourist visa will be valid for 90 days. Upon entering Myanmar, your stay must not exceed 28 days. As soon as you leave Myanmar, your visa expires and you will need to apply for a renewed visa.
